Quiet Self Recovery

Insight into How I Dealt with My Trauma

I'm Chris. This workbook comes from my own understanding of recovery and the things that helped me and still help me. I'm not a therapist or clinical professional. I've made space for honest reflection, kindness and your own words.

Your own words and understanding

What you'll find inside.

Letters, fears and love

Letters to your younger and adult self, an optional photograph reflection, fears and love lists, and an optional experiment with writing using your other hand.

Recognising the differences

Being alone or feeling lonely. Loving someone or being in love. Guilt or shame. Explanations, everyday examples and space for your own reflections, including where these experiences overlap.

Kindness in everyday life

Boundaries, connection, a day of care and a plan for a difficult day. Small choices you can consider alongside the support that helps you.

The ending on pages 43 to 49 explains what each task is meant to help with, with practical examples and page references to the exercises.

An original personal reflection aid

The QSR reflection model.

A simple way to slow down and put a reflection into your own words. The workbook includes examples and a writing page you can use again.

Question gently

What is happening, and what am I feeling?

Separate with care

What are the facts, feelings and assumptions? What responsibility is mine?

Respond kindly

What do I need, and what is one safe, kind next step?

This is my personal reflection model. It is not a tested therapy or assessment.

Make it work for you

Print it. Type in it. Take your time.

  1. Choose your version. Use the PDF for handwriting, or type into the editable Word file.
  2. For printing, use A4 at Actual size or 100%. Colour and black and white both work. Single-sided pages leave room for writing; double-sided printing is also an option.
  3. Start with a manageable page. There is no deadline or required order. Every exercise is optional. Pause if a page feels too much and get the support you need.
  4. Keep your completed copy private. Your answers stay in the copy you download or print. You do not need to send me your writing or photographs.

The reminder that this is my personal understanding and lived experience, not professional advice, appears on every page. Sources and influences, including Gabor Maté's writing and the adult children recovery tradition, are acknowledged on pages 40 to 42. This is an independent QSR workbook.
